A Space of One's Own
Virginia Woolf’s feminist literary criticism begins with the
belief that in order for a woman to be a successful writer she must first have
a room of her own. The same can be said for female artists. To find a place
within the art community a female artist must first establish where she fits
into her surrounding space. The work of artists Breanna Jarrett, Sydne Sherman,
Jamie Winter, and collaborative pair Jodi Lightner and Amber Stene all explore
female portraiture with a relation to their surrounding space.
